About PatentActIndia.com

PatentActIndia.com is an independent educational platform operated by MYCrave Consultancy. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Government of India or the Indian Patent Office. We do not accept filings, issue patents, collect official fees or act for the Patent Office in any capacity.

Why this site exists

Indian patent law is public, free and almost unreadable to the people it affects most. The Patents Act, 1970 and the Patents Rules, 2003 are available on official websites as long PDFs written in the register of 1970s parliamentary drafting. An inventor in Coimbatore, a founder in Indore or a researcher at a state university can download them and still have no idea what to do on Tuesday.

This site takes every one of the 185 sections of the Act and every one of the 166 rules, gives each its own page, and explains it in ordinary language with an Indian example, the forms that apply and the deadlines that bite. Nothing is behind a login. The law is free and we intend to keep it that way here.

The one rule we never break

An Act section is not a Rule, and a Rule is not an Act section. They are kept in separate collections, at separate URLs, with separate badges and separate indexes. Where they work together we link them in a clearly labelled box, and we never reproduce a Rule's explanation on a section page. Omitted provisions keep their numbers and their pages, marked Omitted, because older judgments and file records still cite them.

Who writes it

The plain-language explanations, examples and answers are written by the editorial team at MYCrave Consultancy & Services and reviewed before publication. Statutory text is reproduced only from official sources. Read our editorial policy and our legal review policy for exactly how that works, including what is still pending.

Who pays for it

MYCrave Consultancy & Services does. The site carries no advertising and sells no data. It exists because people who understand what a request for examination is make better clients, and because a firm that has filed 22,000+ IP applications has an obvious interest in fewer of them being lost to avoidable mistakes. When you need help with your own matter, we would like it to be us — that is the whole business model, and we would rather say so plainly than pretend otherwise.

What this site is not

  • It is not a government website or an official Patent Office portal.
  • It is not legal advice, and reading it creates no professional‑client relationship.
  • It is not a substitute for the official text, which prevails over everything here.
  • It is not a filing service. Official filing happens on the Patent Office e-filing portal.
