Legal review policy

Current status, stated plainly. The provision index, structure, cross-references and plain-language explanations on this site are complete. The verbatim statutory text has not yet been mirrored into the official-text box on each page, and the full legal review of the explanations is in progress. Until a page shows a named reviewer, treat its explanation as unverified and read the official text at the source link on that page. We would rather tell you this than display a reviewer's name that has not signed off.

The review queue

  1. A writer prepares the explanation, example, key points and answers for a provision.
  2. The draft enters a review queue. It is not published as verified until it clears.
  3. A qualified Indian patent professional checks it against the current official text: is the substance right, is any period stated correctly, is any form number correct, does anything read as advice.
  4. Approved content is published with the reviewer's name, the review date and the next review date.
  5. Anything the reviewer flags goes back, and stays unpublished until it is fixed.

Amendment monitoring

  1. We record the current official text of every provision and the date we verified it.
  2. We monitor official amendments and Gazette notifications.
  3. When something changes, we compare the old and new wording line by line.
  4. The change goes to a legal reviewer with the affected pages listed.
  5. Pages are updated only after the reviewer approves.
  6. The change is recorded in the public change log.
  7. Previous versions are kept in an internal archive so we can show what a page said and when.

Case summaries

We publish a judgment summary only where a reviewer has approved it and it carries the citation, the court, the date and a neutral description of what was decided. We do not publish case notes that argue a position or that imply an outcome for a reader's own matter. This is why most provision pages currently say no reviewed summary has been published yet.

What prevails

The official statutory text and the applicable Gazette notifications prevail over every simplified explanation on this site. Where the two differ, the official text is right and we are wrong — please tell us.
